Artist Statement

I think of my artwork as an in depth communication with my subject.  As a child I loved all
animals and spent hours drawing them on anything that accepted a pencil or paint. This evolved into
inting portraits of horses and dogs and I ended up painting almost exclusively show dogs and canine pets.  I discovered that in reaching for the personality and character of my subject I was holding a mental and emotional conversation with my model and as the portrait developed it became a good friend.   I branched out into portraits of children and I discovered that the same thing was happening although I was working from photographs.  Now my latest project is painting flowers and the same communication is occurring and, yes, you can talk to flowers and, yes, they do answer you in their own way.
